Landed in Ethiopia!

What a feeling to touch down on the Addis Ababa tarmac after over 20 hours of travelling. God totally blessed us with amazing travels, no problems going through security on either end, our kids were so easy going and hardly complained at all, and all 16 bags of ours made it and not one needed to be opened and rummaged thru, which is totally common on this end.

Everyone is settling in quite well, and we are not complaining about the wonderful sunshine, especially considering we left home on a snowy day. We have spent the first few days setting up our house, which seems to be a perfect fit for us, although we do have some plumbing issues to solve, the constant drip, drip from a few different places leaves us with little water and another noise to fall asleep to.

The boys are in their element getting to wear short, play cars in the dirt and hunt for lizards. We have all enjoyed walking around getting to know a few people in our neighborhood (well as best as we can with the language barrier). The shop ladies always look to Tenesae to be our translator and then we have to try and explain we are all from Canada. We are looking forward to starting some Amharic lessons next week hopefully.

Kai was complaining after 2 days that we had not eaten any Ethiopian food and we were in Ethiopia, so we found a local vendor where we can get enough shiro (split pea like stew) and injera (the flat bread) for our family for 2 meals and it only cost us Birr 60, which is about $3.50. The kids are already begging to get some every day. They have been served bottles of Coke and Mirinda a couple times already and are popped out!

All of the kids notice every single stray dog and have begged to bring a couple home already, I must admit the little puppy by the school was pretty hard to leave.

Please continue to pray for us as we settle into a new way of life here, most of which we are enjoying, but the slower pace of waiting to start work is a hard concept for us busy North American's to adjust to. We also need our iphone unlocked to have more regular internet and contact so hopefully we can figure that out soon. Miss you all!
